PRESS RELEASE
4 February 2010
The GAA confirms that a presentation on the Experimental Playing Rules
to be used in the upcoming Allianz Leagues was made to Team Managers at
a recent meeting in Croke Park. A very detailed discussion took place on
the rules and their implementation. In addition, at their recent
pre-League seminar, referees also received a briefing on the
Experimental Rules and were reminded of the need for consistent
application of all disciplinary rules during the competitions. In 2009,
during the trialing of experimental disciplinary rules a number of fouls
were identified as highly disruptive, i.e
* To Pull Down an Opponent
* To Trip an Opponent with Hand(s), Foot or Hurley
* To Deliberately Body Collide with an Opponent after he has
played the ball away or for the Purpose of Taking him out of a Movement
of Play
* To Bring an Arm or Hurley around the Neck of an Opponent
* To Remonstrate in an Aggressive Manner with a Match Official
* To Use the Hurley in a Careless Manner
These offences, all of which are punishable by a yellow card, were
highlighted at the seminar and referees have been instructed that the
penalty for these offences must be rigidly applied.
