A persistent back injury has forced Clare Hurling legend Colin Lynch to retire from the inter-county scene. He called time on his illustrious career after visiting a specialist in Dublin.
The 34 year old will be remembered as one of the most dynamic midfielders of his generation having burst onto the scene during Clare’s All-Ireland winning year of 1997. His enforced retirement means that Niall Gilligan is now the only remaining link with that great team.
Colin’s midfield partnership with Ollie Baker in the late 1990’s was one of the finest the game has ever seen. He was a match winner for the Banner County on many occasions, including the 2002 All-Ireland Quarter Final against Galway.
A talented footballer also, Colin hopes to be back playing with his Club Lissycasey in time for the local championship which gets underway next month.
