Those odds and predictions tell you the bookmakers see Clare as a real contender – but not the favourite. The Division 1B relegation has cost them credibility in the market. Teams that dominate the second tier don’t always translate that form against the elite.

Shane O’Donnell told RTÉ after Éire Óg’s county final win that a number of older Clare players who were thinking of retiring reconsidered after the “disappointing” 2025 campaign. “It would have been really difficult to leave it at that,” he said.

The Counter-Argument: Why Clare Might Struggle

Here’s what skeptics point out – and it’s a fair argument. Clare got relegated from Division 1A in 2025. They lost their Munster campaign that same summer. Aidan McCarthy, the All-Ireland final hero, isn’t in the squad. The six new panelists are untested at the top level. RTÉ’s Liam Sheedy flagged that a lack of marquee forward talent coming through is a worry for several counties, Clare included.

Tipperary won the 2025 All-Ireland. Cork beat Limerick in a semi-final classic in 2024. These are not counties standing still. Clare’s championship predictions depend on whether the league form carries over – and history says it doesn’t always.
