The Hornets have gone 14-3 since late January. That’s the best record in the NBA over that stretch. Better than OKC. Better than Cleveland. Better than anyone. They’ve climbed from lottery hopefuls to play-in contenders, and they’re doing it with a second-year forward, a flashy point guard, and vibes.

Brandon Miller is having his breakout moment – 26 against Portland, increasingly confident on both ends. LaMelo Ball is creating chaos in the most entertaining way possible. And the team is playing with the freedom that comes from having absolutely nothing to lose.

Boston (41-20) are the reality check. The NBA’s best defence. Twenty wins at home in nine outings. And they just obliterated Milwaukee 108-81 in a game that felt like a practice session.

Boston Without Tatum: Still Elite, Somehow

Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles before the season started. That should have been a catastrophe. Instead, Boston are second in the East, playing the best defence in the league (107.0 PPG allowed), and just posted an NBA-record 80.8% effective field goal percentage against Brooklyn. Without their best player.

Jaylen Brown stepped up. Anfernee Simons was acquired to fill the scoring gap. The system – Joe Mazzulla’s five-out motion offence – creates open looks for everyone, and the defensive switchability means they can guard anyone, anywhere.

TD Garden is a hostile environment. The crowd knows they’re watching something special – a team that was supposed to struggle proving that organisation beats individual talent.

The Streak Is Real – But Is It Enough?

Charlotte’s 14-3 isn’t built on beating pushovers. They’ve beaten quality teams during this stretch, and the improvement is genuine. Miller’s defence has improved dramatically. Ball’s assist-to-turnover ratio is the best of his career. Coby White provides consistent secondary scoring.

The question is whether a young, hot team can maintain that level at TD Garden against the league’s most disciplined unit. Boston won’t panic. They won’t give Charlotte easy looks. They’ll make the Hornets execute in the half-court over and over, and that’s where youth and experience diverge.
