Let me list Real Madrid’s injury report. Just sit down first.

Kylian Mbappé – knee. Jude Bellingham – hamstring. Rodrygo – ACL, GONE FOR THE SEASON. Éder Militão – tendon. Dani Ceballos – muscle. Eduardo Camavinga – dental (yes, dental). Raúl Asencio – neck. David Alaba – long-term. And Franco Mastantuono? Suspended. Red card against Getafe.

That’s NINE first-team players. Real Madrid are sending what is essentially a Castilla XI with Vinícius and Güler to Balaídos to face a Celta team that already beat them 2-0 at the Bernabéu this season. A Celta team that’s unbeaten in five. A Celta team in the European places. With Iago Aspas – at 38 YEARS OLD – still running the show like it’s 2018.

I almost feel sorry for Arbeloa. Almost.

Kick-off: 21:00 CET, Balaídos, Vigo. Live on DAZN.

The Rodrygo ACL Changes Everything

Let’s be real – losing Mbappé was bad. Losing Bellingham was worse. But losing Rodrygo to an ACL against GETAFE? That’s the one that breaks the season.

Real Madrid’s front three was supposed to be Mbappé-Bellingham-Rodrygo-Vinícius (yes, all four rotating). Now it’s… Vinícius. And Güler. And whoever Arbeloa can find who’s actually fit.

Güler has been excellent, by the way – 7 assists, some genuinely beautiful creative play. But he’s 21. Asking him to carry Real Madrid’s title challenge while playing alongside a bunch of squad players is asking him to be prime Zidane. He’s not there yet.

And the defence? Alexander-Arnold offers going forward but his positioning is… let’s say “adventurous.” Without Militão, the centre-back pairing of Rüdiger and Huijsen is functional but slow. Against Celta’s quick transitions – Aspas to Swedberg, one-two, goal – slow is fatal.

Celta Are Genuinely Brilliant Right Now

Five games unbeaten. Four wins. 1.8 goals per game. 0.8 conceded. And they already proved at the Bernabéu that they can take Madrid apart – the 2-0 win in December was no fluke. Celta controlled the second half completely.

Aspas is 38 and playing like he’s 28. 174 La Liga goals for Celta. He’s never played for Spain at a major tournament and never left Vigo for more than one unhappy season at Liverpool. He’s the ultimate one-club man, and Balaídos adores him.

Swedberg, the 22-year-old Swede, provides the pace and pressing that Aspas no longer can. Together they’ve formed one of La Liga’s most productive partnerships – 14 combined goal involvements in the last 8 matches.

And Mingueza at right-back? The man makes more overlapping runs than any full-back in the league. Against a Madrid side missing… well, everyone… he’ll have acres of space.

The Expert View

Gary Neville said it perfectly on The Overlap: “Nine players out? At this stage of the season? That’s not a squad crisis – that’s an emergency.” Preach, Gary.

Guillem Balagué, who knows La Liga better than anyone on English TV: “I wouldn’t want to go to Balaídos with a full squad, let alone the shell that Madrid will field.”

Michael Owen, who actually played for Real Madrid (yes, that happened): “Madrid’s young players will either grow up fast on Friday or crumble. There’s no middle ground.”

And Arbeloa himself, trying to keep it together: “We cannot use injuries as an excuse. This badge demands results.” Brave words. But badges don’t score goals.

The Numbers

Our Picks

Best Bet: BTTS Yes @ 1.66 Celta score in 85% of home games. Madrid’s defence is held together by duct tape and good intentions. But Vinícius can score against anyone. Both teams scoring is the safest bet on the card.

Smart Play: Celta Win @ 3.25 This is the bet. Celta are in FORM. Madrid are in CRISIS. Nine players out. Two straight defeats. Celta already beat them 2-0 at the Bernabéu. At 3.25, this is one of the best value bets in European football this weekend.

Longshot: Aspas Anytime Scorer @ 3.00 The legend. At Balaídos. Under the lights. Against a defence missing its entire first-choice back line. If this is one of Aspas’s last seasons – and at 38, it might be – nights like this are what he lives for.

Our Call: Celta 2-1 Real Madrid. Aspas sets up the opener, Vinícius equalises with a moment of individual brilliance, but Balaídos roars Celta forward and Swedberg scores the winner with 12 minutes to go. Madrid’s title challenge takes another hammer blow.
