Edinburgh vs Ulster Match Odds Predictions and Betting Guide – URC Round 2 Rescheduled March 13 2026

Right then – this one’s been a long time coming. Originally scheduled for October, postponed because of international call-ups, and finally played out under the Hive Stadium lights on a Friday night in March. The wait has done Ulster no harm at all.

Since October Ulster have climbed to 6th in the URC with 36 points. Edinburgh have struggled badly and sit 12th on 23 points with their season effectively going nowhere. That 13-point gap did not exist when this fixture was first scheduled. It tells you everything about the different trajectories these two teams have taken.

Richie Murphy’s Ulster need the win to cement their top-8 position and keep alive any hopes of climbing higher. Sean Everitt’s Edinburgh need pride, development minutes, and to send the Hive faithful home with something positive before the season fizzles out.

Friday March 13 2026 – 19:45 GMT (21:45 Kyiv) – Hive Stadium, Edinburgh

Why Ulster Should Win This – But Edinburgh Will Make Them Earn It

Ulster’s squad depth is the decisive factor. Five players returned from Ireland’s Six Nations campaign this week – that is an enormous injection of quality. Juarno Augustus is back from an ankle injury and his ball-carrying transforms Ulster’s pack. James Hume and Stuart McCloskey in the centres give them a midfield that can bully most URC teams.

But hold on – Edinburgh at the Hive are not easy opponents. They beat Scarlets 24-19 last time out at home and earlier this season pulled off one of the results of the URC campaign – a 33-20 demolition of Toulon in the Champions Cup. When Edinburgh’s forwards front up and Freddy Douglas wins breakdown turnovers they can compete with anyone.

The problem is consistency. Edinburgh cannot do it every week. The loss to Glasgow 3-21 at home over Christmas showed the other side of their game. Magnus Bradbury leads well at number 8 but the supporting cast is thin.

The Key Battle – Breakdown Warfare

Douglas versus Augustus at the breakdown is the match within the match. If Douglas wins early turnovers the Hive crowd will lift Edinburgh into a contest. If Augustus punches through the gainline repeatedly Edinburgh will tire and Ulster will pull away in the final quarter.

The back three battle is compelling too. Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe give Edinburgh genuine finishing power out wide. But Ulster’s defensive system channels everything narrow and forces opponents to beat them through the middle – exactly where they are strongest.

Where the Smart Money Goes

MarketOddsOur Angle
Ulster Win1.36Deserved but short for a single
Edinburgh Win3.25The Hive factor keeps this alive
Ulster -6.51.85Edinburgh lose by 7+ in 5 of 7 home defeats
Over 40.5 Total1.80Both teams score tries – value here

The total points market is the play. Edinburgh average 2.3 tries per home match. Ulster average 2.8 per away match. With Augustus back carrying and Graham finishing from broken play this should produce 40+ combined points.

The Verdict

Ulster are the better team and it is not particularly close. The returning internationals tip the balance decisively. But Edinburgh will score – Graham or van der Merwe will find the tryline at least once – and the Hive crowd will make the first half competitive.

Our Call: Edinburgh 17-29 Ulster

Ulster’s pack will grind Edinburgh down. Augustus and the forwards set the platform, Hume and McCloskey finish in the wider channels, and Nathan Doak’s kicking game pins Edinburgh deep in their own half.

Best Bet: Over 40.5 Total Points @ 1.80 Value Play: Ulster -6.5 @ 1.85 – they have the quality to win by two scores
